Muscle Fatigue; Current Concepts in Rehabilitation & Conditioning

Optimal neuromuscular performance is essential to the maintenance of dynamic joint stability. Sub-optimal functioning of the musculature as a consequence of high-intensity exercise can limit the effectiveness of rehabilitative and muscle conditioning interventions and might present an additional risk-factor to injury.
Within this 2-day course, we will explore the various components of neuromuscular performance and how these aspects of performance might be negatively affected by fatigue, or positively enhanced by specifically-targeted conditioning / rehabilitation interventions. We will specifically look at the timing and regulation of rehabilitation and muscle conditioning interventions to avoid fatigue, optimise gains and minimise injury risk. Practical work will involve the measurement and evaluation of muscle fatigue, the optimal design and implementation of complex rehabilitation sessions and the development of protocols to protect against performance losses from high-intensity exercise.
